Manufatti

Manufatti [Artefacts] are images at last reunited with their nature as objects. Recalling works of art that once travelled the world before the rise of canvas painting, they establish a less mediated, more immediate relation; one of bearing the work, of tending to it. They imply, that is to say, a call to care or curatorship.

The image cannot be reduced to a single retinal spark; it is, rather, a multitude of coloured reflections - each incoherent with the next - of light. Each reflection holds equal dignity in appearing: all alike tangible, concrete, being born of the same matter, yet ineffable in their peculiar responsiveness to light, to shimmer, to the angle of vision.

Manufatti are works one cannot look upon. They bear witness to an unseeability as a whole, even within material unity. Each object carries within itself the secret of its own transformation. There is no information, only presence, in metamorphosis. In this series, the alchemical kiln is built.
