vitriol.
Vitriol is a glance cast into the alchemical furnace, fragments of inner visions within the athanor. The epidermal tension of light and its reflections, so present in the Manufatti series, now plunges into a bubbling pond; the reflected light that once refused to be grasped now chooses to make the very dermis of the painting throb.
If alchemy brings to mind explosions and strange concoctions, or rather, benevolent symbols of inner transformation, here the gaze turns elsewhere: away from spiritual alchemy and away from the laboratory’s chemical experiments. The true hallmark of work such as this lies in the humility of listening, a kind of listening that does not repeat the landscapes of the night dreams nor explain the visions of the intellect, but instead bows to the dimension of light as it interprets matter. Vitriol offers it a body and appears so to renew the abyss, which has not yet exhausted its own abyssal being.
